Do you have broken File Extensions?

If you run into this problem when trying to change the file extension of a file type but you are not able to – then you have FILE EXTENSION issues. When you use the regular steps to do this and find that it does not work – you may be surprised. When you right-click the file and click properties – you get an error. You can also do what I do to solve this kind of error – it is fast, cheap, and much easier than trouble shooting it yourself.

What are application errors anyway?

There are many different exe application errors that can happen for many different reasons like: pc viruses, malware, faulty hardware, software conflicts, bad RAM, corrupt sectors in your HDD, registry errors, etc…

Troubleshooting:

  • Open the Windows command line
  • Enter: Assoc .ext (this is to replace .ext with the problematic file extension.
  • It will then display .ext=name
  • Now type: ftype name=”path to executable”
    • write ‘assoc .ext=name’ again to finish the process if necessary
